Whatever...

I much prefer this film to the original. I felt more comfortable with the characters and already had some emotional investment in them. The plot wasn't heavily laden with boring introductions... it gets right to the good stuff. The actions sequences were uniformly spectacular and the special effects were noticeably better this time around. However, all this being said, it is still a little hard for me to accept that this is a good film... it's borderline at best. I mean, we are still talking about characters with names like Wolverine, Rogue, Mystique, Deathstrike, Nightcrawler, Pyro & Magneto... it's kind of sillyo. I think it is hard to get excited about this kind of stuff unless you grew up on it.

Anyway, I will admit that this was a pleasant surprise and it made me want to re-watch the original to see if I missed something the first time around. 'X2' is clearly a step forward and will have me a lot more optimistic about the quality of the third installment which will undoubtedly hit theatres in a year or two.

Richard Propes' Comment

I had to draw the conclusion that I was psychotic when I originally rated this film a "B", which somehow made it higher than "Batman Begins." I will have to conclude that my rating was nothing more than a hallucinogenic flashback from my young adult days. While it's not quite a "B" range film, "X2" is surprisingly watchable and actually entertaining in spots. The action sequences are exciting, the script tolerable, and the acting suitable to this type of flick. I'd imagine fans of this series would be happy here, and most other "superhero" fans will find something to enjoy. Personally? I'd have to call this an average film at best...but it does get my mildest of recommendations.
