An under-rated thriller! |
| |
| A
beautifully subdued thriller, "Witness" is one of the most underrated
films of all time. An Amish boy witnesses a murder at an urban train
station while he is passing through. In order to protect the boy from
the murderers, a cop (Harrison Ford) is assigned to protect them, but
ends up injured and living amongst the Amish. What follows is a
romance, a thriller, a drama, and a film about the clash of cultures.
Director Peter Weir would later go one to direct bigger and often
better films, but this establishes him as a master of the craft. |

Wasn't
this film critically acclaimed? Wouldn't that
make it an over-rated thriller? Seriously, I
enjoyed this film. I really did. Of course, I've
always had this weird thing about Amish women.
That could explain it. Ford does a nice job
here, McGillis is strong and Lukas Haas has that
whole bewildered Amish look going on. Godunov?
Hmmm. Couldn't they have found someone who could
act for such an essential part?
