Bob's a special kind of friend.
I found this
a truly funny film that continues to make me
laugh over 10 years later. I put it in the A
range largely due to its comic impact on my
life...it's not a stellar film in terms of
film-making, but it achieves its goal of
providing solid entertainment and laughs.
The role of "Bob" seems almost tailor made for
Bill Murray, and director Frank Oz clearly had a
grasp on how to pull out of Murray a performance
capturing the heart, soul and humor of the
character. For me, he clearly steals this film.
Turning in a nice performance, though not as
solid with comedy is Richard Dreyfuss. As his
wife, Julie Hagerty turns in one of her better
performances since "Airplane."
The script got a bit goofy in the final third,
but overall I'd still consider this film a high
entertainment value. It's also good for the
entire family.
