A thinking man's Samurai tale...

This 2002 release recently played at an arthouse theatre in Indianapolis. In this film, a 19th century Samurai tries to protect a battered wife,

This Samurai tale is unlike any other Samurai film I've seen...it is a simple tale...a tale of morality and loyalty, but it is a thinking man's Samurai film. It is filled with tremendous dialogue, great intellect and emotional insight. While there is action within the film, it is actually secondary to the life of this Samurai warrior.

This film is paced casually and flows quite naturally. The film features memorable lighting and cinematography and gentle performances that are subtle in both power and grace.

For a unique film experience, I strongly recommend "Twilight Samurai."

TC Candler's Comment

This is a masterful film that was shamefully overlooked by the public and by many prominent critics.  Kudos to the ones who championed this film to my attention.
