Does anyone have some fava beans and a nice Chianti? |

I am going to give
this film credit for the following...
1. It continues the age old Hollywood tradition of casting gorgeous
3rd-tier actors and actresses in the lead roles. There is plenty of
skin on display here. Special kudos for the casting of Olivia Wilde,
Melissa George and Beau Garrett! However, those seeking ab-busting
six-packs will be well pleased too.

2. It has a rather original premise. Sure, the horror standard of
young people in a scary foreign environment is in play. However, the
use of a freaky Brazilian doctor scavenging their body's organs
seemed a new twist.
3. About three-quarters of the way through, the film showcases a
virtuoso water-cave chase scene and a masterful "air-bubble" moment
that almost single-handedly earns the price of admission.
4. The film doesn't pull a punch. It pushes the limit of the R
rating. It shows everything... in detailed close up -- So, gore fans
should be pleased.
***
Unfortunately, the rest is crap. The acting is flat. The script is
uninspired. The lighting and cinematography is basic and dull. The
humor elicits smirks instead of laughs. The "jump moments" are few
and far between. The film barely generates a single goose-bump.
"Turistas" is a relatively generic horror movie that won't do the
Brazilian tourism trade any favors at all. |
