Writer/director James Cameron strikes gold once again with "True
Lies," a clever combination of a dark romantic comedy and an intense
action film. Cameron has always proven himself a fantastic director,
but often his writing could be sub par. Not here. His script is clever,
witty and often hilarious. We never notice that the entire middle act
of the film contains no action whatsoever because what is happening is
so funny and engaging. Arnold Schwarzenegger gives a surprisingly
strong performance in the lead, and Jamie Lee Curtis is lovable and
sexy as his wife. Walking away with the movie though, is Cameron
staple Bill Paxton, whose brief role provides the biggest laughs of
any Cameron film. |

TC Candler's Comment
A rather
entertaining action adventure... Arnold in
typical form.
Richard Propes' Comment
This is one of Arnold
Schwarzenegger's better films, featuring a
wonderful supporting performance from Jamie Lee
Curtis. The film is directed by James Cameron,
long before the big ship sank...but a strong
indication of directing talent. This film has
action, comedy and solid performances. Arnold
fans should love it and actions fans won't be
disappointed.
