Absurdly silly...

Apparently, in the year 800,000, there will be people who still talk English with American accents!?!?!? This film is just too darn silly... it might play well with young children, but most adults will chuckle their way through the plot.

I will never understand why EVERY single film that shows us the future reveals nothing but an evil and horrible world with ominous landscapes laced with fire, pain, hopelessness... etc. Only the Star Trek series has had a differing view, choosing instead to make earth a virtually utopian society.

What's with the holographic library assistant who seems to feel real human emotions like loneliness, anger, joy and despair? I really just didn't buy anything about this film.

There are too many unintentional laugh out loud moments that render the film's attempt at real drama embarrassing. The plot seems laden with possibilities but the film foregoes them for special effects and corny dialog. The Time Machine is a big disappointment when it could have been a truly exciting adventure.

I wish I had a Time Machine so I could go back two hours and watch another movie.

Richard Propes' Comment

Director Simon Wells is the great-grandson of H.G. Wells. I don't know why, but I find this little piece of trivia fascinating as good ole' Simon has apparently inherited little of the talent from the family tree. "The Time Machine" is an average little film, but a remarkable letdown considering the family name is on the line here.
