Thomas crown has a boring affair.
It's my
understanding this film worked on a certain
level for some folks...the film, starring Pierce
Brosnan and Rene Russo, is often labeled a 50's
style grown-up classic...I think that's giving
it far too much credit. Denis Leary, in a
supporting role, is about the only thing I found
interesting here despite the direction of John
McTiernan. (He brought us "Predator" and "Die
Hard").
This film has major pockets of remarkably slow
action...which is fine if something else is
going on, but that is seldom the case. Despite
the somewhat appealing approach of showing 50
something folks in erotic situations, I have to
say that I never bought the Russo/Brosnan
chemistry and that Russo felt completely out of
place here.
Other supporting characters included Faye
Dunaway and Ben Gazzara, who both do competent
jobs.
This film has a certain appeal to it, and I can
respect those who enjoyed it. For me, this
affair felt like one long overdue for an end.
