Beautiful Cinematography...
Exciting Plot...
Thoughtful script...
Matrix-like concept...
And the resplendent Gretchen Mol...
This is an underrated Sci-fi thriller! I think
it is better than The Matrix. But it suffered
because it was released a few months after the
Keanu Reeves flick. It also didn't have the BIG
name star or a ton of slow motion action
sequences that so many people crave.

Propes' Comment
Visually
appealing but completely lacking in character
development, "The Thirteenth Floor" is fortunate
to have a cast that seems capable of crafting
characters from a script that feels devoid of
anything resembling character. The film combines
a touch of film-noir with a virtual reality
world. The film's production design is
impressive, but the entire film feels vacant
much of the time. It's pretty to watch, but who
actually cares? Unfortunately, the film's timing
was horrid in following "The Matrix" and its
poor box-office a reflection of the audience's
"been there, seen that" attitude. "The
Thirteenth Floor" deserves to be seen, and the
more intellectual "The Matrix" fan-base will
find much to enjoy here.
