Growing up sure ain't what it used to be!
To say that I
loved this film would be a stretch. It is a hard
film to watch. Co-written by director Catherine
Hardwicke and star Nikki Reed, this film
features a Golden Globe nominated performance by
Evan Rachel Wood and an Oscar nominated
performance by Holly Hunter.
I am somewhat troubled by this film's R
rating...while it is certainly a graphic film,
it isa film that takes a realistic but
frightening look at the choices and pressures
facing today's teens. Wood, as a teen struggling
to fit in who latches on to the "cool" but
troubled character played by Reed, is simply
marvelous in her role.
As her mother, Hunter gives one of her best
performances in a role that requires a rainbow
of emotions. The film approaches a myriad of
problems facing today's teens, and does so with
unflinching honesty.
This film is challenging to watch, but I highly
recommend it.
