Some films practically defy review... |

Writing
a review of "The Godfather" is a genuinely pointless exercise. So much
has been said about it and so much has been written that a new review
is not going to say anything that has not been said before. The story
of the Corleone Mafia family, their leader Don Corleone (Marlon Brando),
his son Michael (Al Pacino), and the tragedies that befall them is an
American classic. Brando is amazing in his role, but the real soul of
the movie belongs to Pacino, whose Michael is the center of the
series. Pacino is the greatest actor of all time; here, he shows a
quiet intensity that no actor can ever match. Michael is the hero of a
Greek Tragedy. He is a King who gains much but loses it all. There is
a reason why students read Sophocles in high schools around the world.
And there are reasons why "The Godfather" is one of the greatest films
of all time |

TC Candler's Comment
I am about
to contradict myself a little... But "The
Godfather" is a brilliant film that is vastly
overrated by the general film going public.
It consistently tops all online Top 100 polls
and has become a standard answer for guys when
asked what their favorite film is. I think
both "Godfather 1 & 2" merit placement in those
lists... but they are not the best films ever
made.
