Who will survive and what will be left of them? |
| |
| With so
many horrendous sequels and so many disgusting imitations, it is easy
to forget what a groundbreaking and frightening experience "The Texas
Chainsaw Massacre" is. It's more like "Psycho" than "Friday the 13th"
as that it rarely shows actually violence onscreen, but instead uses
clever editing and sound to give the illusion that you are seeing more
than you actually are. This is a terrifying film because of it's
reality; it was shot on grainy 16mm, giving it a documentary look that
the sleek horror films of today cannot match. Every actor is an
unknown, never giving you any clue as to who is going to die and who
will live. This is the ideal horror movie for simply being scared. It
doesn't have the soul of "The Exorcist" or the excruciating pacing of
"Halloween," just gut churning grittiness that won't quit |

TC Candler's Comment
Simply
dismal and insanely boring.
Richard Propes' Comment
I
first saw this movie at a drive-in at a far too
young age. It kept me frightened for weeks, and
may still explain my personality. :) Plus, any
movie that has a person in a wheelchair as one
of the victims is alright by me! I've never been
nearly as fond of the sequels, but this one is a
classic.
