Relentlessly silly fun... |

Combine “Top Gun”,
“Firefox” & “Behind Enemy Lines” and you get a highly implausible, but
nonetheless entertaining, action film starring three of Hollywood’s
brightest stars. Josh Lucas, Jessica Biel and last year’s Oscar
winner, Jamie Foxx, team up to deliver “Stealth”, a popcorn action
adventure that will leave you exhausted from adrenaline rush. This
2005 film, about a rogue stealth fighter jet on a killing spree, won’t
be nominated for any Academy Awards but it does thoroughly entertain
as one of those delectably guilty pleasures.
You start to realize what kind of film “Stealth” is when it takes a
break from the high-tech air battles to insert an MTV-style musical
interlude with its lead stars exhibiting impeccably tanned and
muscular bodies as they bathe underneath a majestic waterfall. At that
point, you realize that this film isn’t taking itself too seriously.
Josh Lucas and Jessica Biel are perfectly cast in this film. Lucas’
southern charm and heroic flare, reminiscent of Steve McQueen, coupled
with Biel’s breathtaking beauty and action-star body makes for a
fantastic combo. They are both able to create characters that we can
care about, despite a paint-by-numbers script that won’t be winning
any Pulitzers.
“Stealth” is easy entertainment. It is easy to watch, easy to enjoy
and easy to envision holding up in repeat viewings. It is a DVD worth
popping in on a Saturday night when the pizza arrives and the beers
are cold. |
