"Speed" is
a loud, explosive film filled with plot holes and moments of pure
unbelievability. Despite this, it is a genuinely great thriller that
makes up for it's shortcomings with an incredible amount of pure
adrenaline. Once the film gets rolling it never stops. One problem is
solved and another is created. It's a fast, frantic and mind blowing
ride. It's your thoughts AFTER the film that harm it. When things are
over, it's easy to see that it went on for far too long. It's easy to
see that both Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock were thoroughly
irritating in their roles. It's easy to notice how bad the comic
relief is. "Speed" is you standard blockbuster that just happens to
have an incredibly intoxicating power. I highly recommend it, but it's
not a masterpiece. |

I can
understand why people derive a certain
intoxicating pleasure from "Speed," but I'm not
one of them. I found Reeves and Bullock to be
sub-par, the action to be predictable and the
overall tone of the film silly.
