Judd
Lightens Up...
Ashley is a
beautiful, successful, intelligent and kind
woman who gets dumped (yeah right) and begins to
analyze the male psyche as it applies to
romance. She moves in with a 'one night stand'
artist and, of course, starts to realize that he
is the one for her.
This film has many standard, funny, romantic
comedy moments... but it is also laden with a
few too many crying scenes that drag the entire
mood down. I am glad to see Ashley Judd trying a
different kind of role, and she is very good
here. Note the way she tries to keep from crying
in a scene with Jackman half way through the
running time... it is very well acted. I
recommend this film, but only slightly.

I'm trying
to remember an Ashley Judd movie that I actually
enjoyed. I can't think of one. This one is no
exception...It's a mildly entertaining piece of
romantic fluff. Judd is nothing beyond average,
and doesn't keep up with her co-stars including
Greg Kinnear, Hugh Jackman, Marisa Tomei and
Ellen Barkin. In fact, I think I'd have enjoyed
Tomei much more in the Judd role. This is what
most would call a "Chick flick" and doesn't
offer much for guys, except the aforementioned
Tomei (unless you are a Judd fan...I'll pray for
you).
