The
sexiest woman alive in the sexiest film of the
Year.
Lorenzo is an
author who meets a waitress named Lucia (Paz
Vega) for the first time in a restaurant. She
confesses to following him and spying on him
after having read his first novel and
immediately declares her undying love for him.
After being a little shocked, Lorenzo soon
realizes that he has feelings for her too. Their
love-making is passionate and soon they are
engulfed in a relationship so perfect that it
seems too good to be true. It is.
Lorenzo's next novel and the big secrets from
his past are soon conflicting and the pain is
too much for him to bear. His depression and
isolation are taking their toll on Lucia, who
sees her lover crumbling away. We watch as they
each take journeys toward the truths of their
existence.
This film is about the fateful twists of life
and the consequences of our actions. It is about
whether we can truly know other people the way
we often think we do. It is about responsibility
and the guilt of not living up to it. It is
about true love versus passionate love. It is
about the devastating effect of lost
opportunities. It is about escape and flight
from tragedy and sadness.
And it is about finding each other after the
storm.
Absolutely one of the most sensual films ever
made, 'Sex & Lucia' finds a dreamlike quality
that has the ability to mesmerize it's audience.
If you can find this Spanish art-house gem...
watch it!
I will concede that the labyrinthine structure
is a little messy, but the spectacular visuals
and intriguing characters more than make up for
it. Director Julio Medem infuses each scene with
artistic and cinematic flare. You could lift
almost any still from this film and have a
beautiful photograph to hang in any museum. This
is a gorgeous film to watch.
'Sex & Lucia' is one of those movies that is
impossible to forget. The images, music and
story will haunt you for years. It is
mystifyingly memorable.
I think I am in love with actress Paz Vega, who
may very well have the most cinematically
beautiful face I've ever seen. She is at the
heart of this film and conveys every possible
emotion under the Spanish sun. Rarely, if ever,
have I seen an actress display as much range as
she does in this one role. She is a bright star
and will hopefully be in many high-profile
movies over the next decade or two.

Visually stunning, but oddly unappealing "Sex
and Lucia" is written and directed by Julio
Medem...whose gift clearly lies in the directing
department. It is easy to get swept up in this
film...it is simply enchanting to watch, and the
performances overcome what is generally a
pointless, uninvolving script.
This film is quite erotic...and features an
absolutely beautiful Paz Vega...who adds a depth
to her character that the writer failed to
include. Quite simply, it feels to me like she
finds more character than is really there.
This is one of those films that strikes me as
incredibly pretentious and self-important. In
other words, it tries to create enough layers so
that it projects "If you don't get this...then
it's your problem." I got the film...I just
didn't care about what I was getting. It was
oddly disaffecting, but masked within the beauty
of the photography and the actors & actresses.
I rate this film a solid "B" mainly because of
the stunning cinematography and the
performances...It's not a film I will ever need
to watch again.
