Will
true love find you?
I've been
avoiding writing this review for quite some
time...I have a hard time explaining why I love
this film so much. Of course, I have a strong
affinity for Cusack performances...and he's in
good form here. I'm also a big fan of Jeremy
Piven, an acknowledged real life friend of
Cusack and that chemistry really aids the
performances here. Kate Beckinsale is obviously
beautiful, but I did find her performance the
weakest link here...In fact, I was really
tempted to rate this film lower but Cusack
really just saves the film. He's a joy to watch
here, and so I find myself watching the film on
a regular basis. The script is cute, but fairly
predictable. The cinematography nice with some
obvious alterations post 9/11. I can understand
why someone wouldn't necessarily enjoy this
film, but I can say that I found it
entertaining, romantic, funny and sweet. It's a
great date film.

When
Harry Met Sally + Sleepless in Seattle - A Few
Key Scenes = Serendipity.
This film has all the elements in the blueprint
for a romantic comedy... The couple who meet
cute... the two quirky friends who help them get
together... The New York setting that seems
standard in these things... The upbeat Jazz
music with grainy vocals... The time passing as
they keep missing each other... And the
inevitable desperate race to their reunion at
the end of the film!!! This film lacks a few
'great & memorable' scenes but it works anyway,
especially for those (me included) who love
films like this.
If it had a little more of 'them' and a little
less of the 'search'... this film would have
been great fun! However, the bulk of the film is
devoted to fate smashing them both over their
heads with signs as they meander toward lives
with other people. Yes it does have a certain
romantic charm but... GET TOGETHER ALREADY!
James Berardinelli said in his review...
"I want to see the movie
that comes after this one, when these two
soul-mates start spending time in each other's
company." I couldn't agree more.
