He loved the American dream. With a vengeance. |

| Ahhhh,
Al Pacino. One of the finest actors who has ever lived. He has played
a blind man, a football coach, a cop, several mobsters, and in "Scarface"
he plays a Cuban immigrant who becomes a powerful drug dealer. "Scarface"
can actually qualify as trash in many people's minds. After all, there
is enough violence, sex, drugs, and language to make even Tarantino
blush. But those who think of it as exploitation are wrong; in it's
own way, "Scarface" is a film classic. It chronicles the rise and fall
of a man who came to America born with nothing, it tells the story of
an evil man who slowly comes to realize that he is evil. Yeah, there
is alot of classy stuff to get involved with in "Scarface," but it's
usually more fun just to enjoy the blood, guts, and Pacino's
outrageous performance. After all, it you look too hard at "Scarface,"
you may find that it actually does NOT have any redeemable qualities
in it. But if you watch it with a blank mind, I can almost guarantee
you will have a good time, especially if you are not the squeamish
type. The highlight of the film is Pacino, overplaying to the max. His
Tony Montana is a coke-obsessed madman who kills anyone who gets in
his way and speaks terribly mangled English. Over the years, he has
become an idol to the more corrupt of society, but it is a marvelous
performance and one of Pacino's best. |

Richard Propes' Comment
"Scarface"
is not a film the timid will tolerate, but it's
a film that fans of brilliant acting should
watch for Pacino's performance alone. This film
has taken on a life of its own 20 years after it
was in the theatres.
