Richard Propes' Review

A-

If you are a Ramones fan, then "Ramones Raw" should be considered a must-see video, though I had the privilege to see this film on the big-screen at an arthouse theater here in Indy recently.

This film follows the Ramones from the early days and features many of the quirky career highlights including Night of the Living Dead and Howard Stern experiences are funny but they are also typical Ramones.

Fans of punk...Fans of any of the various bands trying to call themselves punk today would do well to watch this film and watch one of the most consistent and enduring bands of the punk era prior to recent losses within the band.

To this day, a double bill of Ramones and Stray Cats remains my favorite concert of all-time and this film contains marvelous concert footage and Ramones archive footage that will just enthrall fans.

So, why an A- if i'm so entralled? Well, in the punk tradition I have to say that a lot of the parts of this film have a sort of home movie quality to them...there are times when sound quality is lacking...but, that's part of the charm of punk anyway...so, if you're into that sound then these issues shouldn't bother you at all!

"Ramones Raw." If you can't catch it on the big screen, be sure to catch it on DVD.
