Squeaky Clean...
I will give this film a 'C+'
because it has a good heart and young girls
will love the film. As for me, and any other
adult, the film is so fluffy that it fails to
really engage in any meaningful way. It is
designed to lift
the spirits of ugly ducklings who wish they
were swans. "The Princess Diaries" is a
pleasant, inoffensive film... nothing more.
However, I do believe that Anne
Hathaway shows a lot of promise and could be a
big star over the decade or two. I hope she is
offered and accepts some great roles.

In terms
of G-rated family entertainment, it really
doesn't get a lot better than "Princess
Diaries," starring Anne Hathaway and Julie
Andrews. It's a wonderful film for young girls,
especially those who may need support and
validation. There's nothing particularly deep or
insightful here, but Hathaway is certainly
charming enough and convincing in the
appropriate way. This is the sort of film I like
to recommend to families. It's entertaining,
sweet, and will likely open the door to
discussions that should occur between parent and
child.
