Step
by step.
I'll confess
that I have a harder time watching this film now
that we have Whitney Houston's confessions of
drug use...maybe it's not fair, but it just
really casts a negative light on her performance
in the title role. That's a real shame, because
in this Penny Marshall directed film Houston
really does shine quite brightly.
Along with Denzel Washington and Courtney B.
Vance, Houston builds a nice film with a lot of
the charm and sweetness present in the 1947
original "The Bishop's Wife" featuring Cary
Grant, Loretta Young and David Niven.
This is a solid holiday film acceptable for the
entire family...a good, though somewhat aged
soundtrack accompanies the film. Marshall's
direction is competent, though not necessarily
creative.
