True
confession.
I'm a sucker for a movie that
successfully manipulates my emotions...a movie
that makes me feel, makes me think, makes me
laugh or makes me cry.
I'm a sucker for films such as "Pay it Forward"
even when I know I'm being manipulated into a
"feel good" state of being. "Patch Adams" would
be another example of such a film...I know that
this film is not perfect. I know that this film
is not really even plausible.
Thanks to convincing performances by Kevin
Spacey, Helen Hunt and Haley Joel Osment I found
myself willing to suspend my cynicism...willing
to suspend my disbelief and just go along for
the ride.
I was unexpectedly surprised by the beauty of
Hunt's performance...Where has she gone anyway?
What's she doing lately? Several wonderful
performances and now she's disappeared from the
radar...Kevin Spacey...wonderful with none of
the occasionally irritating traits we see once
in awhile.
In supporting roles, James Caviezel and Jay Mohr
are wonderful. One could certainly fault the
manipulative direction of Mimi Leder, but
considering the power of the message it just
works for me. I know I shouldn't, but I just
can't help myself. I recommend this film.
