A rite of passage...

The highlight of "Patton" is George C. Scott in what may very well be his best performance. His performance As George Patton is one of complete power and control and the opening monologue is one of the most memorable moments in the history of film. Outside of Scott, though, there isn't as much as one would hope. While the war scenes are engaging, none of them stand out. While Scott is surrounded by veteran actors, none of them do anything memorable. The reason this film won it's Oscars and the reason the film is remembered today is because of Scott. It's a truly bravura performance of grit, humor and macho toughness that every guy will love and every girl will scratch their head at. For this reason, "Patton" is up there with "Die Hard" and "Predator" as one of the great "guy" movies of all time. Watching this should be a rite of passage for boys to become men.

This is James Berardinelli's favorite film of all time.  High praise from one of the five best critics on the net!   I really love the epic feel and grand performances in "Patton"... It truly carries weight and depth that define it as a classic.  If you haven't seen this film... hurry the hell up and get around to it already!
