I enjoyed
this movie a lot more than I expected...In fact,
I didn't even see the film until I got hooked on
the soundtrack. I've never been much of a George
Clooney fan, but this was a good vehicle for
him. Generally, any film that includes a credit
to Homer is bound to get a pretty positive
review from me. When you throw in the touch of
the Coen brothers, well, you have a pretty good
(but definitely flawed) film. Clooney does a
wonderful job as Ulysses, and Holly Hunter picks
it up quite nicely as his wife. John Turturro
gives his typically dependable performance,
alongside Tim Blake Nelson. Also making good
appearances are John Goodman, Charles Durning
and Chris Thomas King. The soundtrack is killer,
though I am partial to folk/bluegrass. The film
is a comedy, but doesn't maximize its potential.
I'd imagine it's a bit too quiet of a film to
capture the hearts of its audience. Still, it
was unexpectedly enjoyable.
