Richard Propes' Review

B-

This Summer go blonde!

After a second recent viewing, I've dropped this film a notch...I'm figuring that my initial "B" rating was primarily my enchantment with Reese Witherspoon, and not really based on reality. The reality is this is a pretty harmless, fairly meaningless comedy with a pretty good comic performance by Witherspoon, a fairly wooden performance by Luke Wilson and a ridiculous script.

Of course, the plot...and I use that term loosely, centers around a dumped sorority queen who follows the aforementioned boyfriend to law school and finds herself surprisingly gifted in law.

There are some cute side performances here, including the always dependable character actress Holland Taylor, Selma Blair, Jennifer Coolidge and even Raquel Welch.

There is some decent dialogue here, and I tremendously enjoyed Witherspoon...perhaps a better male lead and I could bump this back up a notch. For now, I'll rate it as a slightly above average comedy, a decent rental and not a bad date film
