Getting it all horribly wrong...

I cannot begin to describe how bad this film is. There are too many loop holes to mention... the flag waving reaches an embarrassing all time high... the acting is stilted and awkward... the casting is extraordinarily wrong... and the directing is infantile!!!

A General is convicted of a heinous crime and sent to jail for 10 years. While in prison, he instigates a riot because he doesn't like the way the place is run... boo fuckin' hoo!!! He and hundreds of convicted military criminals attack and murder innocent guards in order to secure the prison warden's resignation.  Is this film a joke?

In a film where the sole purpose is to get the audience to root for the underdogs and the 'good guys' I found myself doing the opposite. I was rooting for the 'bad guy' warden, and praying that Redford and his legion were stopped and sent to the Gas chamber... literally. These convicted criminals, that we are supposed to sympathize with, break every prison rule... show nothing but disrespect for the guards and the warden... attack and murder many innocent military officers... endanger the lives of themselves and their friends... and cause a riot with major damage to a military institution!?!?!? How in the hell are we meant to cheer for that? These guys should be shot!!!

And, amazingly, James Gandolfini delivers the worst performance of the year in a dramatic role. Redford isn't too far behind.

T
his is one of the worst mainstream releases in years.
