TC Candler's Review

A-

Lesbian Seinfeld...

One of the most insightful and witty scripts of 2002 highlights this gloriously charming relationship-comedy that hits all the right notes. This film is so amusingly intelligent about the nature of modern dating and all its complexities & it features two fantastic performances from Westfeldt and Juergensen. Filled with moments that will make you laugh and cry, sometimes simultaneously, Kissing Jessica Stein is a funny and quirky romance that has 'Seinfeld' humor and 'When Harry Met Sally' charm!

Richard Propes' Comment

I loved this unexpected indie hit...it's romantic, funny, insightful and touching. Westfeldt and Juergensen, who also co-wrote the script, have a wonderful chemistry. I laughed when I saw TC's "Seinfeld" reference, but I can sure see where he's coming from on this one.

Jacob Hall's Comment

"Kissing Jessica Stein" is a romantic comedy, but it just so happens to be a romantic comedy that is original, funny, inventive, and well shot. It does follow the same basic romantic comedy formula, but it does so uniquely.

The story is about Jessica Stein (Jennifer Westfeldt) a nuerotic woman who can't find the right man, and Helen (Heather Juergensen), a woman who wants to experiment with members of the same sex. Soon, these two get in a relationship, a bumpy one, of course.

"Kissing Jessica Stein" is a nice little indie film with some subtle, but noticeably excellent cinematography, and extremely likable characters. I must say that it becomes rather unpredictable toward the end, but sadly, most of the film is obvious from the get-go. Still, this is one of the better romantic comedies out there.
