A
Daytime Soap Opera with Copious Nudity...
This
is one of the worst scripts you will ever hear.
Every ounce of dialog is stilted and clichéd...
it hurt my ears listening to it. At times I had
absolutely no idea what the hell I was
watching... in fact, I found it hard to hold
back the giggles during the silliest parts like
the marriage proposal. Maybe it's just me, but I
didn't think smearing fresh blood on your
girlfriend's face, after having crushed another
man's skull in a phone booth, was the perfect
moment to pop the question.
Joseph Fiennes gives the worst performance of
the year as the suspicious man, with a constant
five o'clock shadow, who can seduce a woman with
a slow-motion sensual stare. The usually gifted
actor is truly embarrassing here.
The best things about this film are Heather
Graham ; )
She actually does a good job here with
ridiculously awful material. You really can't
tell from this movie, but I think she is on her
way to becoming a great actress... she has
approached a high level of her craft in films
like Boogie Nights, Two Girls & A Guy, and
Sidewalks of New York. Unfortunately, the film
she signed on to do here didn't quite pan out
the way it was presented to her by the director
and her agent. This will be a role she'll want
to forget. Every great actor has one of those
movies that they neglect to add to their résumé.
She is in almost every frame of this film and
she elevates the material from total and
absolute schlock to mediocre cheese. The
cinematography in the film accentuates her
profound beauty, which becomes the primary
reason to sit through this thriller. The sets,
the locations and Heather are all stunningly
beautiful to look at... it is just a shame that
they are all wasted on a script that needed
about 50 more rewrites.
I suggest you avoid paying a cent for this
film... it will be on late night cable in no
time.

Sorry, I
just can't do it. Heather Graham's body gets at
least a C- for any film. <Sigh> I know. I know.
Sometimes, I just suck as a critic.
