This is an
interesting concept that I actually wish had
worked. The plot involves an NBA player who is
booted from the league when his antics get too
outlandish...so, he poses as a woman and ends up
joining the WNBA. The potential here is pretty
solid, but it ends up working considerably less
than "Baseketball." Miguel Nunez Jr. has the
lead role as Juwanna Mann and has a supporting
cast of Vivica Fox, Kevin Pollak, Tommy
Davidson, Kim Wayans, Lil' Kim and others who
seem to have a bit of chemistry. The story is
unbelievable, not always bad...but it doesn't
work here. Tommy Davidson does a nice turn here
as "Puff Smokey." It allows him to cut loose
with some solid character
comedy...Unfortunately, I don't think the
direction here, by Jesse Vaughan, took full
advantage of the skills of his cast. The pacing
was odd, the balance was off and generally it
just felt uneven throughout the film. A good
idea, not well realized.
