Ahh,
the pure joy of watching a film written and directed by Quentin
Tarantino. The perfect writing, the amazing imagery, the feeling that
a true master is steering the film...it's all perfect.
"Jackie Brown" may be Tarantino's weakest film, but when your weakest
film is an A-, that is really good.
Based on on the novel "Rum Punch," Jackie Brown is about a middle-aged
flight attendant named Jackie (Pam Grier, making a serious comeback)
who runs money for Ordell (Quentin regular Samuel L. Jackson), an arms
dealer. When she is apprehended by an ATF agent (the always fun
Michael Keaton), she is forced to choose sides. But with the help of a
bail bondsman named Max Cherry (Robert Forster), she ends up swindling
both sides.
Very well done, with 1970s B-Movie actor Forster proving that he is
actually a great actor by stealing the movie. The entire cast is
great, though. The only weak part is a subplot between two of Ordell's
friends played by Robert DeNiro and Bridget Fonda. Although they are
fine in the roles, their scenes together are uninteresting and do not
become important until late in the film.
Oh, well, it's still quite a ride. |

I just
don't get it. I am one of those devoted
Tarantino fans who is baffled by this entry on
his résumé. I was utterly bored by this
film. The rest of his films are classics!
