The
film isn't horrifying. The acting is horrifying.
"I Still Know
What You Did Last Summer" is a harmless, but
incredibly pointless sequel/follow-up to the
unexpected hit "I Know What You Did Last
Summer." These films are what I'd refer to as
"bubble gum" horror. They use semi-stars, pop
music, slick set design and throw in artificial
horror/anxiety designed to mainly scare the
sheltered teen who actually has no clue what
really horror is yet. Hmmmm. That sounded
judgmental, but oddly enough I'm okay with that.
This film, starring the likes of Freddie Prinze,
Jr., Jack Black, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Mekhi
Phifer, Bill Combs and Jennifer Esposito among
others is basically a retread of the first film
with fewer novelties, fewer scares and a
significant increase in ridiculousness. This
second film, while basically treading the same
water as the first, doesn't have near the
plot/storyline (not that the first was
brilliant), and simply drags way more often and
director Danny Cannon falls back on violence and
gore, which is over-the-top compared to the
first film.
To dignify this film with a lengthy review seems
pointless. I could go into the storyline, but if
the director didn't care about story why should
I? The simple fact is the dialogue here is
tripe, the characters were nearly all
unsympathetic and the performances lifeless and
boring. I still know what I did last Summer. I
wasted two hours watching this film.
