Seeing isn't important. Vision is everything.
"If You Could
See What I Hear" is one of my guilty pleasures.
It is a film that inspires me and makes me smile
every single time I watch it.
I first saw this film when it was released in
1982, my junior year in high school. The story,
based on the life of blind musician Tom
Sullivan, is captured beautifully on screen. In
the role of Sullivan, Indiana native Marc Singer
is simply outstanding. I truly believed that
Singer was destined for greatness but bad film
selections relegated him to a has-been doing
films such as the "Beastmaster" series of films.
It is a shame...this film indicated an immensely
talented young man.
The film co-stars Shari Belafonte, who also
gives a nice performance here as a love
interest. In a supporting role, R.H. Till does a
nice job. (and won a Genie Award for it).
Singer really is the reason to see this
film...he vividly captures the spirit and humor
of Sullivan and does quite the convincing job
portraying blindness.
This is a light, romantic comedy that I
wholeheartedly recommend IF you can find it in
the video store.
