POP QUIZ!!!

Which is faster... Benicio del Toro on foot or Tommy Lee Jones on foot?

Which is faster... Benicio del Toro on a bike or Tommy Lee Jones on foot?

Which is faster... Benicio going downhill in a car or Tommy on foot?

Which is faster... Benicio on a train or Tommy on foot?

Who would win in a fight... Benicio with a knife or Tommy with nothing?

Well, the answer to all of those questions is apparently Tommy Lee Jones!?!?!?!

'The Hunted' is so absolutely ludicrous that it defies belief and, for a movie with such a simplistic plot, that is saying a lot. The 43 words of dialogue are merely filler for the stunningly thin storyline which can be summed up in three words -- "Guy chases lunatic!" Nothing in this film even hints at plausibility.

This is the kind of film that gives the 'hunted' man enough time to practice some metallurgy, while the Feds are hot on his heels, so that he can wield a new razor-sharp blade made from a piece of scaffolding. I'm not making this up folks! It's unintentionally laugh-out-loud funny.

You will also be hard pressed to find worse fight scenes than are showcased in this film. The two leads duel it out in hand to hand combat that make Steven Seagal fights seem masterful. The 'knife fight scene' toward the end is pitiful as they slice and dice each other without ever causing any apparent damage. This is an awful film in every way.

Oh, and lets get something straight... Tommy Lee Jones is not the wise and grizzly tough guy who can kick some serious ass. He is an old fart who can't pull off roles like this anymore. I never really did buy into that whole persona of his, even back in the mid-1990's when he had those two really popular years after 'The Fugitive' came out. He is a one character actor... and it became tired and boring years ago.

This film is like the CliffsNotes version of 'First Blood' & 'The Fugitive'. Skip it unless you are in desperate need of cringing with embarrassment for Benicio del Toro and Connie Nielsen, two actors that definitely deserve better than this. 'The Hunted' is one of the bigger disappointments of the year.
