Somebody kick me for watching this crap!
Infinitely
more enjoyable than all but the original
"Highlander", this fourth in the series of films
returns Christopher Lambert to the lead role but
still serves to only offer the TV series addicts
something to drool over with its excessive sex,
violence and action. It offers little, if
anything, to anyone else.
The film succeeds slightly because of more
attention to the atmospheric qualities that made
the original "Highlander" so popular. As the
sword swinging Scot, Lambert is appropriately
macho and adept at violence. (Is that a
compliment?)
Douglas Aarniokoski helms the film and returns
it somewhat to the original's balance of action,
humor and ever so slight introspection, done
largely through flashbacks that are fairly
vacant and leave numerous unanswered questions
left over from previous films.
Doug Milsome's cinematography is foggy, yet does
a nice job of creating an atmosphere for this,
in essence, sci-fi game.
"Highlander: Endgame" is not a complete failure.
In fact, it's rather refreshing to see it return
to its roots. Yet, it continues to be a rather
humdrum film series with only a limited
audience. If you have enjoyed "Highlander" on
television then, by all means, this film is
definitely for you. Everyone else will be
waiting for this game to end.
