The Discovery of a Soul Mate...

This is a masterpiece! Tom Tykwer has established himself as one of the best young directors of this era. With Run Lola Run & The Princess & The Warrior under his belt, he has fashioned one of the most moving and extraordinary love stories of the past decade. 'Heaven' is exactly that... Heaven!

Cate Blanchett stars as Philippa, a woman who tries to avenge the death of her husband by planting a bomb in the office of the man who is responsible. Unwittingly, she kills four innocent people instead and is arrested on four counts of murder by the Carabinieri, a branch of Italian law enforcement. Giovanni Ribisi plays Fillippo, one of the Carabinieri, who believes in her innocence and good intentions. He decides to help her escape with an elaborate plan and follows her as she evades the authorities. This magnificent movie follows their journey together across the Italian countryside as they strive for enlightenment, bliss, happiness, unity and love.

This is a beautiful film!!! One of the all time greats!

Richard Propes' Comment

I typically have great respect for diversity of opinions... especially in an area such as film. However, it blows my mind that there are critics who considered this a merely average film. I saw this film recently at one of our two local art theatres in Indianapolis and was immediately blown away by the performances of Giovanni Ribisi and Cate Blanchett. Wonderfully directed by Tom Tykwer and based on a script by Krzysztof Kieslowski and Krzysztof Piesewicz, this film is beautifully shot with a stunning chemistry between Ribisi and Blanchett. Fans of arthouse films should definitely enjoy this one, and it enters my Top 100 quite comfortably.
