Close but no cigar...
The
plot and the message are a little too
manipulative and heavy handed for this to be
considered a great film, but the two hours pass
breezily enough in what amounts to a generally
riveting WWII courtroom drama.
The film looks beautiful... it obviously had
extremely high production values! The score is
beautifully composed. The acting is solid all
around. BUT!!! There is just something
missing... perhaps a lack of passion or feeling.
I just didn't connect with any of the
characters, they were all cardboard cut-outs
with very little depth.
The ending is just plain silly and undermines a
great deal of the investment this film made for
the first hour and fifty minutes. Directors
really need to stop the 'lone bugle soldier
speech'... it was clichéd 30 years ago. Now it's
just laughable.
Almost everyone will like this film... very few
will love it
