James Bond is back in action! |
| |
This is
the one. The first Bond film to be truly massive hit. The first Bond
film to feature a wonderfully over-the-top plot and a delightfully
strange cast of characters. The first Bond to feature Desmond Llewelyn
as Q, the eccentric gadget inventor.
The exciting story features Sean Connery at his best. Bond is
investigating Auric Goldfinger, a criminal mastermind, who is planning
a big operation of some sort. It is soon revealed as a plot to raid
Fort Knox!
Terrific supporting cast includes the now infamous henchmen Oddjob,
whose bowler hat not only gave him style, but could be used as a
deadly weapon. One of the best Bond women was found in Pussy Galore
(Yes, she was also the first character to have an erotic name). And I
must get back to Q, whose workshop and display of handy gadgets we get
to see for the first time.
The best scene: Bond is strapped to a table with a laser slowly
inching up toward him. Goldfinger is looking on.
BOND: Do you expect me to talk?
GOLDFINGER: No Mr. Bond! I expect you to die!
As this is said, every Bond fan laughs with delight and even the
average moviegoer smiles. |
