Audrey is great, and this film is not...
I
am tempted to give any film with Audrey Tautou
an immediate A+. Not only is she one of the most
beautiful women in the world, she also happens
to be one of the most expressive and nuanced
actresses working today. Very few actors or
actresses can convey as much without words as
Audrey Tautou. She is brilliant.
However, the material in 'God is Great, and I'm
Not' is as belabored as that title. The story is
weighed down by hard-to-like characters and a
rather insignificant character arc for our lead
actress.
I recommend this film strictly for die-hard
Tautou fans. The film focuses solely on her and
she delivers a crafty turn despite a weak
script. If you are like me and can watch this
girl watching paint dry without getting bored...
then maybe the film is worthwhile. Plug in any
other random actress and it might be a total
dud.
Personally, I am eagerly awaiting Tautou's
re-teaming with 'Amelie' director, Jean Pierre
Jeunet in 'Un Long Dimanche de Fiancailles'
which hits theatres later this year. That will
be a far superior film to this one!!!
