Sly Stallone stumbles secretively in some
snow...
I was pleasantly surprised by this thriller,
primarily because it had sat on the shelf for a
couple of years without being picked up for a
major studio release. Usually that delay occurs
because the film is hideous and no one wants to
risk any money on it.
This whodunit thriller is relatively exciting
and reminded me a little of the fantastic French
film from 2001, 'The Crimson Rivers'. Stallone
is pretty damn good as the Federal Agent whose
life is being tormented by a deranged cop
killer. He heads off to a remote detox-outpost
in the middle of a snowy wilderness so he can
overcome the grief he feels for his murdered
fiancé. Needless to say, the killer follows him
there and we get to watch the classic whodunit
where no one is safe from suspicion and no one
can come or go.
Polly Walker delivers a really nice turn as the
doctor who helps Stallone overcome his issues,
and the rest of the cast is pretty solid, with
the exception of a few clichéd bad guys.
This movie merits a minimal recommendation for a
hard to predict killer and some great
locations... but it isn't anything terribly
original and it may slip from the memory banks
pretty quickly.
