I loved this
film, and not just because it appealed to the
schoolgirl/stripper fantasy. It's a quite
wonderful Atom Egoyan film (writer/director).
The film features beautiful performances from
Bruce Greenwood and Elias Koteas...Mia Kirshner
did a nice job, but was almost a bit too distant
at times. Cinematography is outstanding, from
street scenes to club scenes to the "strip"
sequences. If "Showgirls" had a tenth of the
energy, intrigue, excitement or emotion this
film had it might have been watchable. Egoyan
creates a complex environment here reminiscent,
in some ways, of a PT Anderson film. These
characters all have lives that inherently impact
each other...the absence of one impacts each of
the others. Furthermore, it's all beautifully
interwoven. The film definitely has disturbing
and/or haunting moments...but, it's definitely
worth watching.
