Anne
Hathaway enchanted...
The last five years have seen a veritable deluge
of fairytale/princess movies aimed directly at
mothers and daughters who are unwilling to watch
movies not recommended by the Christian
Coalition. They are terrified of movies that
contain such harsh language as "heck" and "darn"
and "shucks". Most of these films are dumbed-down
and corny. They are usually a total waste of
time. 'Ella Enchanted' is different. Sure, it's
saccharine and cheesy from start to finish... I
wouldn't consider it a very good film. But it
does shimmer with originality and flare and
humor that isn't wasted on adult minds. I
laughed many times and was charmed enough to
give this movie a nod.
Anne Hathaway is energetic, beautiful and
charming. She makes the film worth watching in
many ways. With 'The Princess Diaries 2' coming
out soon, Hathaway is one of the main
attractions in these 'young teenage girl
fantasy' films. Along with Ashley Judd, she has
become one of the most typecast actresses in
Hollywood. However, I have heard she is about to
break out of that shell with a shocking
performance in an upcoming film called 'Havoc'.
I think she has a good career in front of her...
but 'Ella Enchanted' better be one of her last
ventures into this 'princess' genre or she will
soon be on the D-list.
I give this silly little film a recommendation
for originality, goofy humor that made me
giggle, and an energetic turn by Hathaway. 'Ella
Enchanted' is a passable ninety minutes of
entertainment that ranks as one of the best of
its kind since the 1986 classic, 'The Princess
Bride'.

I admit it. I
heard the theme for this film and my perve
impulse went wild. Can you tell me what kind of
a prince or townsfolk or any old guy wouldn't
take advantage of a hottie like Anne Hathaway
under a spell to be obedient? Heck, that's a
better fantasy than I've ever had.
