| This is one of those
"puzzle movies" where bit and pieces of information sprinkle their way
on to the screen in measured doses, until the last few minutes when we
finally comprehend the entire picture. "11:14" refers to the time of
night around which the entire plot revolves. In and around that
time, two automobile accidents occur in a small town with surrounding
actions and reactions.
I am not going to detail the multi layered action for you... To be
quite frank, it doesn't much matter. This is simply a mere
exercise in tricky filmmaking and quality acting. I am usually
opposed to films without a point, but this one seems to work. It
is clever and it moves so swiftly that it becomes quite enjoyable to
watch.
I would also recommend it for some quality acting performances from
Hilary Swank, Rachael Leigh Cook and a surprising turn from Patrick
Swayze. The entire cast is able to create a believable group of
characters.
Again, this film is not one that will resonate or tap into your
emotional well. It is merely a satisfactory curiosity that
probably eluded you in its very limited theatrical run. But it
is definitely worth checking out on DVD if you can find it. More
likely, you will stumble across it on late night cable TV. |
