Go back to where it all started... |

| Not
being a fan of Eminem or rap music (I'm a country, classical, jazz
person myself) I watched "8 Mile" expecting some gangster rapper
trash. But it's really not. It's an honest movie about people trying
to escape from what they hate. Director Curtis Hanson (who directed my
all time fave "LA Confidential) delivers a film that almost delivers
on all grounds. Eminem proves himself to be a fine actor, and Kim
Basinger (as his mom) is great as always. Perhaps it's the entire
ghetto/rap thing that turns me off. For a film that is supposed to be
uplifting and interesting, the climax is an...insult contest? Couldn't
it have at least been a rap music contest? As much as I hate rap
music, I could have understood that. I just don't get the point of
making yourself better by becoming a better insult rapper. |
