Richard Propes' Review

D+

This film is directed by Tom Shadyac...director of the current Jim Carrey hit "Bruce Almighty" along with other Carrey hits "Liar Liar" and 'Ace Ventura: Pet Detective." This film was considerably different from those films, and even Shadyac's less successful "Patch Adams." This film features a flat performance by Kevin Costner, and a storyline that never seemed to gather my interest. I was moderately impressed by supporting performances from Kathy Bates and Linda Hunt, but they weren't central enough to really save this film. The film seems to be striving for a mystery/romantic feeling...unfortunately, it never really commits to either path and ends up feeling wishy-washy. Costner is not a strong enough performer to rescue this script.
