Bond goes fishing for Hallebut and Pike...

This was easily the best Bond film in which Brosnan has had the lead role... and I think it is one of the best of all 20 Bond films. The action never stops, the tongue-in-cheek humor is funny and plentiful, the Bond girls are as sexy as ever, and the gadgets are as amusing and original as any in the series. This was great fun!!!

Brosnan proves here that he still has some Bond left in him... I think he'll be around for a couple more installments yet. He finally establishes himself as the perfect successor to Connery and Moore. The first three efforts, although not awful, were rather tame and disappointing when compared to the classics. Brosnan has always been very good in the role, but he finally has a great film to back him up.

Rosamund Pike may just be the hottest and sexiest Bond girl of them all. She plays Miranda Frost with an icy cool elegance and she has some of the best lines in the film. I am certain we have just seen the coming out party for a new star in Hollywood.

I don't think you can ask much more from a Bond flick... it delivers on every promise that a 007 film makes. You will not be disappointed.

One thing missing from the film was the Bond theme... that famous bass riff was strangely muted because it was drowned out by the explosive volume of the action sequences. I challenge you to hear it even once during the 135m running length. Also, the title song, performed by Madonna, seems a little out of place here... it is unfaithful to your typical Bond themes and sticks out like a sore thumb. Madonna's cameo is also the only bad acting performance in the film... surprise, surprise!

Richard Propes' Comment

Pierce Brosnan? No trouble there. Cleese as Q? Gimme a break. It's dreadful. Madonna's theme? Ick. Madonna's unexpected appearance? Double ick. The mind-numbingly bad script? Double O ick.
