He came back to settle the score with someone. ANYONE. EVERYONE! |

For his
second film in the "El Mariachi" trilogy, Robert Rodriguez's budget
has gone from $3000 to $3,000,000 and as usual, he makes every penny
count.
This time around, Antonio Banderas takes over the role of the gunman
who hides his weaponry in his guitar case. There is little plot to
speak of, but a lot of fast, frantic, and very exciting action.
Banderas is good in the role, Salma Hayek is fine as the heroine, and
Steve Buscemi and Quentin Tarantino make some humorous and
entertaining appearances. Also keep your eyes open for many Rodriguez
regulars.
Despite it's low budget, "Desperado" is cleverly written, well acted,
and wonderfully directed. It's a B+ movie until the last five minutes,
where it ends with the most ant-climactic and unsatisfying ending in
film history.
Action fans and Rodriguez fans should definitely check this one out. |

TC Candler's Comment
Terrifically entertaining!!!
Richard Propes' Comment
Am I the only one who loves Tarantino as an
actor? There's just something about him...I
immediately light up when I seem him on the
screen (No, silly, not THAT kind of light up).
This film is wonderfully entertaining with
strong performances all the way around. The
ending is, indeed, anti-climactic. I've never
really fancied myself a Salma Hayek
fan...perhaps it's just the awareness she's
completely out of my league?
