Richard Propes' Review

B

Despite multiple flaws, I find myself enjoying this film 15 years after its release. The film features my first awareness of Nicole Kidman other than "Flirting," along with Sam Neill and an early Billy Zane performance. The film is intense, suspenseful and generally well filmed. The script has multiple weaknesses, including odd situations, lame escapes and simply bizarre choices. In particular, Kidman gives a strong performance here. Zane, as the villain, isn't particular convincing and I've generally never bought into a Sam Neill performance. This is a solidly entertaining film, worth a rental.

TC Candler's Comment

I am tempted to give this gem four-stars... It is a truly gripping thriller.  Sam Neill and Nicole Kidman are both brilliant in this film.  Perhaps only Billy Zane's slightly strained efforts prevent this film from reaching the highest rating.  Still, I can watch this film every time I run across it on cable.  It is a low-budget classic.
