Return of the 70's disaster flick...
I
know I will get a lot of flack for this but I
think that 'Daylight" is one of the best
disaster films ever made. It may not be great
filmmaking... but it is spectacular moviemaking.
There is a big difference!
I suppose one could argue that the cast of
characters is as clichéd as it gets. I wouldn't
protest too much with anyone who says the acting
is rather lame. I concede that the plot is
formulaic and reminiscent of the corny 1970's
disaster films that were so prevalent in that
decade. Everything about this film reeks of pure
cheese... and I loved every minute of it!
Sometimes, a film critic has to throw up his or
her hands and admit that a particular movie is a
guilty pleasure. In my case, 'Daylight' is the
supreme example of that.
I highly recommend this movie which sports one
of the great scores of the 1990's and delivers
almost everything that a disaster flick can
promise.

I have
reached the conclusion that TC has a higher
tolerance for this sort of film than I do. He
seems to have this ability to just surrender to
certain aspects of cheesy filmmaking that I just
don't have. I consider this film practically the
definition of an average film. It is neither
good nor bad...it simply is.

Hmm... I
question that first statement. I'd be
willing to bet that you like more cheesy films
than me by quite a big margin. I think I
am one of the harshest critics in the world on
cheese! This is one of the rare
exceptions.
