This film is
frighteningly miscast, though I'm not sure any
cast could have pulled this off. Still, other
performers might have at least been more fun.
Matthew Modine, who used to be so dependably
good, is incredibly bad in this film along with
Geena Davis, who was wife of Director of Renny
Harlin when this was made. If this film was a
reflection of their marriage, I think we all
understand why divorce happened. I actually
thought Davis could pull off this part, but her
attitude in this film just contributes nothing
to her character and to the development of the
film. Frank Langella was tolerable as the bad
pirate, and there were scenes in the film that
exhibited life and a fair degree of action. I'm
not sure why Renny Harlin felt a need to make
this film, but he needs to learn to resist those
impulses.
