A
film that shows Britney in panties twice can't
be all that bad...
I must admit that I was extremely pessimistic
about the chance that this film would be any
good... I was even more devoid of hope about
Britney's acting talent. BUT! That being said,
both the film and Britney Spears' thespian
ability were pleasant surprises. Is Crossroads a
good film? No... the script is too naive and
clichéd for that... but it isn't the disaster
that some may have feared.
Musically, Britney is a decent 'studio'
performer... but we all know she is hideous at
singing live. She can barely sustain a note
without quivering into her next dance move. That
being said, it isn't a big compliment to say she
is a far better actress than she is a singer.
But she is actually quite good here, even though
the script continuously lets her down. I think
she may have a future on the big screen after
her music fans grow out of her. She has talent
that only a good script will highlight... but
that is the case with the best of actors. The
trick is to choose the right material in the
next few years.
Lets be completely honest, the two
transcendently sublime shots of Britney in her
undies are worth the price of admission alone.
If your jaw doesn't drop to the floor in sheer
amazement at those shots... you're comatose.
This 'karaoke-girl power-road trip-melodrama'
had potential... but missed out because of a
lame script and too many cheesy scenes. Britney
has a little potential... and I truly didn't
expect to say that when I sat down to watch. I
hope she doesn't blow it on safe, naive and
simplistic movies like this one... but I am sure
she will.
